Tamil Nadu Election Results 2016: Counting of votes for the 232 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, where polling was held on May 16 to decide the fate of over 3,700 candidates, including Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and DMK chief M Karunanidhi, commenced this morning.
11.31 am: Continuing to surge ahead, ruling AIADMK leading in 134 seats while its arch rival DMK-headed front in 83 seats, according to latest trends. Jayalalithaa was leading by over 16,000 votes in Dr RK Nagar constituency, forging ahead of her DMK rival Shimla Muthchozhan.
11.24 am: Tamil Nadu: BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit President Tamilisai Soundararajan is trailing in Virugambakkam constituency. As per latest trends, Soundararajan was in the third position behind the candidates of DMK and AIADMK.
10. 58 am: Numbers from Tamil Nadu where Jayalalitha will hold on to her seat. AIADMK is at 137, DMK+Congress is at 88, Others 7.
10.52 am: AIADMK has so far managed 15.92 lakh (42 per cent). Its arch rival DMK has managed 10.98 lakh (29.9 per cent) votes.
9.54 am:  Making an headway, AIADMK was leading in 37 seats while DMK in 19 seats, as per early trends in counting of votes for 232 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu today.  AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa was leading by over 5,000 votes in RK Nagar in the city against her nearest rival Shimla Muthuchozhan of DMK.
9.14 am: Ruling AIADMK is leading in five seats and its rival DMK in two, according to early trends in
the counting of votes in Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. AIADMK was leading in Mayiladuthurai, Poompuhar, Sankari, Udhagamandalam and Athur, Election Commission said quoting early trends. At Thuraiyur DMK was initially trailing but forged ahead. It was also leading in Thiruvaiyaru.
The counting of votes polled in 232 Assembly constituencies in the state Tamil Nadu got underway earlier with the opening of postal ballots.
Besides Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi, the electoral field also has two other Chief Ministerial candidates – actor-turned politician Vijayakant of DMDK-PWF-TMC combine and PMK’s Anbumani Ramadoss.
Counting is progressing in 68 centres across the state involving around 13,000 personnel.
Election Commission has put in place arrangements to ensure that the counting progresses smoothly as the city and its neighbourhood witnessed heavy rain over the last few days.
Election to the Aravakurichi and Thanjavur segments has been postponed to May 23 following complaints of voters being bribed.
