The first win in Europe came at the fourth attempt and felt like a key moment in the early Klopp reign.

That Liverpool didn't manage to beat Sion in either encounter is remarkable, but at this stage of the tournament - even under Klopp - the Reds were still in second gear.
Liverpool had 60 per cent of the ball in Switzerland but only mustered seven shots, just three of which were on target.
The result suited both teams, however, with Liverpool finishing top and Sion second in the group.

All the build-up to the clash was about Klopp's return but in truth the game was disappointing. It ended goalless.

Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool

The second leg again began with a penalty for the home side. Anthony Martial tucked it away and gave United hope, but it wouldn't last.
Philippe Coutinho scored just before the break and effectively ended the tie as a contest. The game also saw fights break out in the stands as Liverpool fans crept into the away end.

Dortmund were strong favourites to go through over the two legs so it was essential Liverpool came out of the away game with a positive result, which they did.

Liverpool 4-3 Dortmund

Dortmund rushed to a 2-0 lead and Liverpool fans began to fear the worst. Somehow though, they steadied themselves and what resulted was a truly special night at Anfield.
Origi halved the deficit before Marco Reus added Dortmund's third of the night. From there, though, it was all Liverpool.
The Reds scored in the 66th and 77th minutes but were still set to exit the tournament before Dejan Lovren popped up with a 91st minute winner.

Liverpool's fans packed the streets before the game, letting off flares to create an intimidating atmosphere for the Villarreal team bus as it arrived at Anfield.
And the Spanish side certainly looked distracted on the pitch. They conceded after seven minutes - an own goal from Bruno - and were two down shortly after the hour mark.
Daniel Sturridge scored the second and Lallana sealed the win late on.
